Zushi is a small city at the base of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, bordered by Yokohama, Kamakura, Hayama and Yokosuka. It developed as a summer resort and villa town from the Meiji era, and the opening of the Yokosuka Line and Zushi Station in 1889 shaped it. Merged into Yokosuka in 1943, it separated again by residents' will in 1950 and became a city in 1954. Zushi Beach is within walking distance of the station, hills such as Takatoriyama and Futagoyama rise beside the housing, and the city declared itself a peaceful city of blue sea and green in 1974. Today it presents itself as a place to commute to the capital while enjoying sea and hills.

It grew as a summer resort and villa town from the Meiji era. In 1889 the Yokosuka Line opened with Zushi Station, and the same year seven villages merged into Tagoe Village. Tokutomi Roka's novel Hototogisu, published in 1900, appears on the city's own historical timeline as a work tied to Zushi.

It shows evacuation routes to high ground, distances, elevations and designated emergency evacuation sites (tsunami), overlaying five assumed earthquakes, including events along the Sagami Trough. The sediment disaster map, revised in March 2026, shows flood zones for the city-managed sections of the Tagoe and Ikego rivers, inland flooding zones for city-managed sewers and channels, and the storm surge zone the prefecture designated in May 2021.
